Robert J. Urban, 91, of 9 Paul Revere Rd., Oil City, passed away Saturday March 10, 2018 after a period of declining health surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Erie, PA., he was the son of the late Vincent and Bernice Hoppa Urban.
Robert was a graduate of Academy High School in Erie and graduated from Gannon College with a B.S. Degree in Business in 1949.
Prior to graduating college , Bob entered the U.S. Military and served as a PFC in the United States Army, serving in Company B, in the 3159th Signal Service Battalion. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal(Japan), Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
On June 29, 1974 he was married by Msgr. Henry Kriegel to the former Janice Gayetty in St. Joseph Church in Oil City and she survives.
In 1949, Bob was hired by Erie Insurance Exhange founder, H.O. Hirt and retired as District Sales Manger in Dec. 1987 after 43 years with the company.
Bob was a member of St. Stephen’s Church as well as a former member of the Franklin EAA.
An avid reader his whole life, Bob enjoyed reading National Geographic, the Smithsonian and several car and motorcycle magazines. He enjoyed learning new things, was an avid motorcyclist, bicyclist, boater and gardener.
Bob had a deep appreciation of nature, he loved roaming the woods and sitting around a campfire with friends.
He loved taking rides in his Miata convertible and traveling to new places.

He was preceded in death by a sister Elizabeth King,

Conrad V. Urban
And brothers-in-law
Marvin Gayetty, Pete Morrow, William Womer and Ken Russell
Bob was very grateful for his caring friends, especially Bill Clark, Frank Lutz and Clem Urban for their many visits during this past year of declining health.
Friends will be received from 3-7 P.M. Wednesday in the Reinsel Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in St. Stephens Church.
Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, with Military Honors Accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
