Carl Lewis Obituary

Carl T Lewis, formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away at Sugarcreek Care Center in Franklin on Oct 14, 2025.  Born on Nov 1, 1948, Carl was the son of the late Carl O. and Emily F. Lewis. As a kid Carl always enjoyed music and took up playing the drums. He was an avid baseball player, in fact, his team "Dilworth Rotary" won the NC State Championship in 1961 and went on to play in the Little League World Series.

He followed in his grandfather's footsteps attending Hargrave Military Academy. After graduation, he joined the Air Force serving his country for over 20 years. He received the AF Good Conduct Medal with four bronze oak leaf clusters and the National Defense Service medal in addition to many other awards and citations. He lived in states across the US and countries around the world with Ramstein AFB in Germany being his favorite and was deployed on remote tours to both Korea and Greenland.

After leaving the military he moved back home to Charlotte to take care of his parents and took a job at the post office where he worked for another 20 years.

He could always be found wherever there was card game going on and was exceptionally skilled at pinochle. He also loved shooting billiards and was as skilled behind the bar as he was in front of it. Anywhere there was some James Brown or The Temptations playing he could be found dancing and having a good time.

Under his tough and at times wild exterior was a man with a giant heart that loved dogs as much as he loved people (probably more). He was careful to never judge anyone and was a man that valued loyalty and honor over everything and gave his all to help out anyone that he could with no hesitation.  He made sure that you never questioned if he had your back and helped a lot of people on his journey through life. He will be loved and dearly missed by each and every one of those people.

He is survived by his son

And his grandchildren
