Daniel E. Pokoj, of Titusville, PA, passed away unexpectantly, Thursday afternoon, July 9th, 2020, at St. Vincent Hospital, in Erie, PA.
Born on December 30, 1948, Grove City, PA, he was the eldest son of the late Edward Pokoj and Sophie Baron.
He was married May 2nd, 1970, to Virginia (Ginny) Shirey, who survives. Dan and Ginny recently celebrated their 50th anniversary and had planned on a family celebration after the COVID restrictions were lifted.
He was a member of St. Titus Roman Catholic Church in Titusville.
Dan is survived by his precious daughter, Travisty, who was born on his 30th birthday, and son-in-law, Darrin Burt of Oil City. He is also survived by five younger brothers.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded by his mother- and father-in-law, Virginia L. and Robert V. Shirey of Oil City.
Dan worked as a civilian Chemical Engineer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Annapolis, MD., starting in 1971 and retiring in 1996, due to the closure of the Laboratory.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the IHMSA (International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association). He, Ginny, and Travisty were competition shooters, with Dan reaching international status in several categories. His hobbies were many; he was an avid reader of all types of books, dabbled in photography of the animals and scenes around his home, he collected model trains and accessories, and thoroughly enjoyed target and shotgun shooting in his own backyard.

In accordance with Dan’s wishes, there will be a private service with no viewing or visitation.
