Duane Pritchard Obituary

Duane W. Pritchard Sr., 88, of Dempseytown passed away in the early morning hours of September 25, 2024 @Oakwood Heights Village in Oil City.

He was the husband of Margaret (Peg) Black Pritchard. The couple celebrated  their 69th anniversary on April 30. In addition to his wife, Mr. Pritchard is survived by a son Duane William Pritchard Jr and his wife Anita of York PA; a daughter, Vicki Pritchard of Erie, PA and an honorary daughter Sue Henschel of Erie PA. He will be greatly missed by his grandsons Alan, Mike and wife Karin of York PA.

Born January 22, 1936 in Dempseytown PA he was the youngest son of the late Melvin and Therma Weikal Pritchard. He was preceded in death by two brothers Elwood Pritchard and Glenn Pritchard. 

Mr. Pritchard enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduating from Oil City high school in 1954. 

Upon leaving the Air Force as a staff sergeant, Duane used the G.I. Bill to enroll in Clarion University and earn his Bachelors degree, he received his Masters of Education from Edinboro University

He taught science math and biology at Oil City Junior High School for 35 years. His students fondly referred to him as Mr. P.

While he enjoyed teaching, he was always a farmer at heart. He took pride in growing vegetables for his family and working on Bob Carter‘s farm caring for animals and baling hay. Duane found time between work and farming to enjoy church leagues of bowling and softball. Upon retirement, Duane was a member of the over 55 softball league and enjoyed golfing with fellow retirees.

Annual vacations to Myrtle Beach was enjoyed by his wife, children and grandsons where he played golf and enjoyed beachcombing

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 at Oakland United Methodist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life Ceremony at 11:00 A.M. with a lunch  to follow. Burial will be private at later date.
