Frederick Szafran Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Frederick Lawrence Szafran announces his peaceful passing on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2024 at the age of 70.  He was surrounded in love and comfort by his family in his childhood home in Oil City.

Fred will be profoundly missed by his devoted wife of 43 years, Christy, beloved sons, Zachary,

Andrew, Aaron (Eileen) and his precious granddaughter, Norah. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Jim (Francie) Szafran. sister-in-law Geneva Szafran, sister-in-law and brother -in-law, Sherry and (Mike) McCloskey, and brother-in-law and sister is law Mike (Pam) Licht and many family members and friends. He will also be sorely missed by his bulldog, Rocco.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances (Voloshin) Szafran, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Clyde and Carole (Hovis) Licht and His brother, Thomas Szafran.

Fred was the class president of the Oil City Sr. High class of 1972 and an avid runner and champion hurdler on the track and field team.

He earned a degree from Clarion University in computer science and was employed at various businesses in the area. His final position was in the accounting department at Conair.

Fred enjoyed tending to his beautiful gardens, cooking, baking, and creating culinary delights as well as

relishing many trips to the beach and Hawaii. However; his true passion was simply taking care of his family.

Whether it was coaching soccer, Cub Scouts, chaperoning school field trips, participating in school events or being a classroom helper, he dedicated his kind heart, time and efforts to his sons and his wife and to countless others.

With a generous spirit and a smile on his face, he enriched our lives with his sense of humor and a compassionate heart.

To know Fred was to know a strong and courageous warrior who fought his numerous health battles over 31 years with an inner strength and a conviction that he would be here to take care of Christy and his boys. Never complaining nor giving up hope and always being gracious and maintaining his well -known sense of humor throughout all of his medical procedures.
