Gary W. Bryan, 79, of Oil City, PA., passed away April 28, 2026 at Oakwood Heights in Oil City.
Born May 27, 1946 in Oil City, PA., he was the son of the late George W. Bryan and Elva Womer Bryan.
Gary graduated from Oil City High School.
He worked at the car washes, Jackson Bowling Alley, and Seneca Lanes as a teenager.
He later worked for Davidson McNair Lumber Co., in Oil City, Millcreek Lumber in Clarion and Weyerhaeuser in Titusville.
Gary was affiliated with the Oil City Salvation Army.
He played basketball in the church league there, was an avid bowler and bowled several days a week. He also enjoyed fishing and dancing while he was able to.
Bingo was a favorite pastime. He loved the L.A. Rams and was known for his great sense of humor.
Gary enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, including Nicole Umstead and her children, especially Maverick. His nephew Caden fondly remembers going to sporting events with Uncle Jim and Uncle Gary.
He enjoyed his beloved pets, Blackie and Bandit, who went with him everywhere.
He collected cans around Oil City to pay for gas. He made many friends while collecting, and was known as “The Can Man.”
Gary would visit food banks around town and would give most of it what he got to people he knew were in need.
He is survived by two sisters
Peggy A. Wilson of Oil City,
Sandra I. Marsh of Oil City
And a brother James W. Bryan of Oil City
He was preceded in death by a brother
George W. Bryan
The Family would like to thank the staff at Oakwood Heights Village and Asera Care Hospice staff that cared for him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday May 1 at 1:30 P.M. at the Oil City Salvation Army with Majors Timothy and Janet Duperree, Presiding.
Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.
