Gayle Marie (Dockery) Faller, 98, of The Lodge at Rocky
Mount Health and Rehabilitation, Rocky Mount, NC, formally
of Oil City, passed away peacefully August 21, 2019
following a period of declining health.
     Born April 3, 1921 in Tarentum, PA.,Gayle was the only child
of the late Col. Raymond E. Dockery and Zella E. (Cutshall)
Dockery.
     Gayle grew up in Oil City graduating from Oil City High School in
1939.
     When her father, a Pharmacist, was recalled to active duty in the U.S. Army in 1941 prior to the U.S. entry
to WWII, she spent 5 years moving around the country as he traveled to his assigned duty
stations.
     When WWII ended, Gayle married her childhood sweetheart, Arthur Norbert Faller in St.
Stephen’s Church on April 9, 1946 upon his discharge from the U.S. Army. They spent the
next 67 years together raising a family and traveling.
     As a member of St. Stephen’s Church, Gayle belonged to the Rosary Society and Catholic
Daughters of America. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution,
the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, the Paralyzed Veterans, and the American Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. After moving to Rocky Mount, NC in 1993 to be
closer to their children, Gayle and Arthur were members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Gayle and Arthur loved to travel. They purchased their first travel trailer in 1963 and took the
family on many memorable vacations. One of their favorite spots was Lolita Recreational Area
in the Allegheny National Forest near Marienville, PA. They later spent many summers at
Farma Family Campground in Greenville, PA. After Arthur retired, Gayle and he spent much
of their time traveling across the U.S. until their health prevented it.
Gayl is survived by 5 children; Carol-Lee (the late Amos “Butch”) Umstead of Rocky Mount,
NC; Daniel Faller of Rocky Mount, NC; Gary Faller (Deborah) of California, MD; Gregory
Faller and his companion Dolly M. Hartzell of Rocky Mount, NC, and Michele (Hans) Rohm of
Wendell, NC. Gayle is survived by
12 grandchildren;
19 great grandchildren;
and 10 great-great grandchildren.
     Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Norbert Faller, March 25, 2013, her son-
in-law Amos “Butch” Stanley Umstead, August 27, 2018, and an infant granddaughter Jodi
Umstead, November 7, 1972.
​ Friends will be received Sunday, August 25, from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  in the Reinsel Funeral Home
and Crematory in Oil City, Pa.
     Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 Monday at St. Stephen’s Church, Oil City, PA. Internment
will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry, PA.
     Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the ASPCA.
