Gene Masterson Obituary

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23

Gene Emmett Masterson, Jr., age 75, passed away peacefully at home in Port Orange, Florida, with his beloved wife, Sally Masterson, at his side. He was surrounded by family and friends after courageously battling cancer for 11 years.

Born March 15, 1950, Gene lived a life defined by strength, faith, love, and service. A proud husband, father of six, and grandfather to many, Gene was the rock of his family—a provider, protector, and faithful leader. He was, in every sense, a man’s man: strong, wise, humble, and deeply devoted.

Gene dedicated nearly 42 years of his life to Joy Mining Machinery in Franklin, Pennsylvania, before retiring. He also honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, including a tour during Operation Desert Storm in 1990, stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany alongside his best friend, BO Bohon.

Beyond his careers in industry and service, Gene was a gifted contractor—building and renovating homes with precision, passion, and skill passed down from a young age.

His impact extended far beyond his family. Gene was a Little League baseball coach, Cub Scout leader, and an active member of his local Masonic Lodge, where he served as Worshipful Master. He was also a devoted contributor to the Shriners organization in Florida, working closely with dear friend Harry Douris to serve children and local communities.

In the 1970s, Gene made the most important decision of his life—accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. That decision became a cornerstone for his family’s faith journey, a spiritual legacy that will live on for generations. Today, we find peace in knowing that Gene is dancing in Heaven’s streets, free of pain, in the presence of Christ and reunited with those who went before him.

Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate Gene’s life with gratitude. His example lives on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
