Harold McLaughlin Obituary

Harold L. McLaughlin “Sim”, age 94, died at home suddenly in the early morning hours of August 22 and went home to be with his Lord and Savior. He had family present at that time.

He served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956 on the USS Valley Forge and then on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier.

In his younger years, he worked for the Worthington Corporation and then for the National Transit Corporation where he left after sustaining severe burns in a fire near President. He also worked for Franklin Steel for 24 years, retiring at age of 60 due to a stroke. Though unable to work at his old job, he kept busy with his own home and enjoying attending his grandchildren’s events. He kept a beautiful garden for many years and kept many in fresh produce. He never let anything stop him.

In 2023, he lost his left leg due to a nonhealing wound but he continued to thrive, He was diligent about his therapy routines and with the help of his son, Brian, was able to continue to live at home. His mind was always sharp and had quick wit. He was member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Oil City.
