James W McAninch

James W. McAninch, 82, of Erie and formerly of Oil City, passed away Jan. 28, 2025 at Lecom-Presque Isle after an extended illness.

Born May 23, 1942 in Sugarcreek Twp. Venango County, he was the son of the late Walter  B. and Ruth Ellen Powell McAninch.

Jim was a 1960 graduate of Rocky Grove High School

Jim was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard, Franklin Company B from 1961-1966 and was called to active duty for the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He was married on Jan. 28, 1963 to the former Barbara J. DeLong and she preceded him in death.

Jim had worked as a milkman for Steers Dairy for many years and later worked as a home health aide in Oil City and Erie. He also had worked at Flip’s Gas Station on the Reno Road for many years.

He last worked as a janitor for the Erie School District.

He is survived by two children

Two great grandchildren

Mackenzie and Abigail

Jim is also survived by three sisters

Carolyn Shaffer and her husband Gale of NC

Helen Wareham of Grove City

Marlene Myers of Greenville

And by several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.

Military Honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard on Monday February 3 at 1:00P.M. in the Franklin Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
