John P. Brown

John Peter Brown, 64, passed away suddenly on August 15, 2023.

Born on October 13, 1958, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Samuel and Anna Perry Brown.

John graduated in 1977 from Oil City High School, where he was a leading member of the football team.

On December 26, 1981, John married the love of his life, Mary Camp Brown. They lived most of their married lives in Florida. There, they raised two children, Justin Samuel and Jamie Marie – something John called his proudest accomplishment.

John loved his hometown, and the couple bought a house in Oil City in 2006. They would visit as often as they could. In 2021, they retired to Oil City and have enjoyed the last two years of adventures in and around town. They had a great time connecting with family and old friends and working on home projects. Their Oil City home was often the center of family gatherings, including a Camp family reunion in July.

John held a variety of jobs throughout his career. Most recently, he and Mary owned a moving business in Florida. While John was a hard worker, he understood that life was to be enjoyed. He loved anything with a motor, from his prized Corvette to big trucks and the latest addition to the garage, an e-bike, which was a present from his children. John was a fun-loving man with a wide circle of friends spanning decades. He loved to reminisce about old times, including his many escapades as a teen. John always had a willing ear and was a great dispenser of advice. All those who knew him will miss John’s zest for life, optimism and quick wit.

In addition to his wife and children, John is survived by two granddaughters who were the light of his life, Aspen Mackenna and Hayden Piper Brown, of Palm Beach. He is also survived by a nephew, Jason Brown, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, as well as an extended Camp family from across the country. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Sam, Chuck and Tom, sisters-in-law Viola and Toni, and a niece, Joy Brown.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 18, from 4-7 PM at the Reinsel Funeral Home, 116 Bissell Ave., Oil City. Fr. John Miller will preside over a service at 7 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oil City High School Football Program, c/o Oil City Blue and White Club, P.O. BOX 1021, Oil City, PA 16301.

In John’s memory, lend someone a hand who can’t repay you – or make someone smile just for the fun of it. Nothing would have made him happier.
