Josephine McMullen Obituary

Josephine C. McMullen of Oil City, PA., passed away peacefully at home, in her blue room, on February 4, 2025.

Born in Oil City on June 16, 1935, she was the daughter of Antonio and Nunzia Fiocco Emanuele, both who immigrated from Sicily to the United States in the 1920’s.

She graduated from  St. Joseph High School in 1953 and worked at Worthington until meeting the love of her life Edward C. McMullen. The couple were married September 15, 1956 and he preceded her in death in 2015.

Josie worked as a secretary for the Practical Nursing Dept. at Venango County Vo-Tech for many years and regularly taught aerobic classes at the Oil City YMCA.

She retired in January 2023 as the secretary for Seneca United Methodist Church.

Josie was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Joseph Church in Oil City.

She loved playing the piano, as well as outdoor activities such as walking, biking, rollerblading and playing tennis.

Josie could often be found outside tending to her flower garden. She enjoyed watching old movies and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates on TV with her kids and grandkids. Her love of baseball developed in childhood while watching local doubleheaders with her father, with whom she shared a love of the game.

Josie was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She had many affectionate nicknames during her life, Josie, Jo, Jof, Jeff, Grandma McMullen, Ama and Grandma Josie. She had many friends due to her kind and generous nature. Her home on Hone Avenue was a gathering place, and there was always more than enough seats for everyone. Whenever she was with her children, grandchildren, friends, or siblings, she loved reminiscing, - the same stories, full of joy and laughter, were often told repeatedly around her kitchen table with coffee and food. She also loved visiting family members in states near and far, and traveled to Florida, Chicago and New York, and many more places for graduations, births and holidays.

Josie loved a good shopping trip more than anyone, and she always had a keen sense of style. She also had a sly, bawdy sense of humor, and everyone who loved her will miss laughing with her.

Josie leaves a family she loved, including five children

Jane Bochek of Tarentum,
