Obituary- Margaret (Peg) Louise Pritchard

A lifelong resident of the Oil City area, she was born on July 1, 1936, to the late George Edward Black and Avanell Mealy Black. She attended Oil City schools and graduated from Oil City High School in 1954. Peg remained active with many lifelong friends, helping plan class reunions and monthly lunches.

After high school, Peg worked at National Fuel while her future husband, Duane Pritchard Sr., completed Air Force training before their marriage on April 30, 1955. During their Air Force years, they welcomed a son, Duane “Bill” Pritchard, in Georgia. Their final station was Waco, Texas, before they returned to Dempseytown to begin family life.

Peg later worked at Lynn’s Department Store while Duane continued his education. They welcomed a second child, Vicki Lynn. After Duane began his teaching career, Peg worked at J.C. Penney, where she coordinated the Toyland Department. She also spent several summers as concession supervisor at 2 Mile Run before finishing her career at John May and Co., where she retired.

In retirement, Peg especially enjoyed time with her grandsons, Mike and Alan, and took great pleasure in planning family vacations. She visited her son’s family in York, Pennsylvania; her daughter in Erie, Pennsylvania; her brother, George, and his wife, Ginny, in Arizona; and her sister, Joyce, and her husband, Gordy, in Elyria, Ohio. She loved to travel by plane, train, automobile, ship, and RV.

Peg was active in the Red Hats, card club, and church activities at Oakland United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed baking, crocheting, shopping, watching the Hallmark Channel and the Pittsburgh Pirates, playing cards and board games, reading, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Peg is survived by her son, Bill Pritchard, and his wife, Anita; her grandsons, Mike and his wife, Karin Swartz, and Alan Pritchard, all of York, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Vicki Pritchard, of Erie, Pennsylvania; her brother, George Black, and his wife, Ginny, of Tucson, Arizona; and Sue Henschel, honorary daughter, of Erie, Pennsylvania.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Joyce Harrington.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Lee Haniwalt and family, Deanie Sampsell, and the staffs of Oakwood Heights and Ascera Care Hospice for their loving care and support.

Visitation and a celebration of life service will begin at11:00 am on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Oakland United Methodist 1431 State Route 428 Oil City. PA 16301. A luncheon will follow at the church. Interment will be private at Lamey Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Peg’s honor be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (www.NationalBreastCancer.org).
