Maureen L. Sumner, 89, of Oil City, PA., passed away Feb. 8, 2025 at UPMC-Northwest in Seneca with her family by her side after living in her own words
“a great life”.
Born Aug. 30, 1935 in Oil City, PA., she was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Esther C. Orsega Peterson.
Maureen was a graduate of Oil City High School , class of 1953.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Oil City.
While in high school, she worked at Brody’s Clothing Store, upon graduation she went to work at Pennzoil until the birth of her son Stephen in 1960.
Several Years later she worked for Attorney Leo M. Brewster, in 1976 she returned to Pennzoil, retiring in 1990.
Maureen was married on Jan. 26, 1957 in St. Joseph Church to Walter L. Sumner and he survives.
She is also survived by her son Stephen Sumner and his fiancé Jami Wurster of Oil City,
2 grandchildren,
Jared and Emily,
And a great granddaughter Claire, all of Oil City
As well as a former daughter in law Lisa Myers of Oil City,
And a sister in law
Eva Gill of FL.
She was preceded in death by brothers-in-law Alan Gill and Robert Sumner and by a sister-in-law Mary Beggs.
Maureen’s entire life was dedicated to her family; particularly her grandchildren Jared and Emily and her great granddaughter Claire, all of whom she was so extremely proud of.
At her request there will be no visitation.
Funeral services will be held at the Reinsel Funeral Home in Oil City at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made to a charity of ones choice.
