Norris M. Carter Jr., 93, of Oil City, PA. , passed away Monday July 3, 2023 at his home after an extended illness.
Born June 18, 1930 in Franklin, PA., he was the fourth of twelve children to the late Norris and Margaret Thorngate Carter.
Norris grew up in Dempseytown and attended schools there and graduated from Oil City High School in 1948.
He helped on his family farm growing up, planting the garden and helping plow the fields. He started working for the railroad out of high school, and went into the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served until 1956. He was assigned to the Seabees, and was stationed in Guam, and in Adak, AK.
Norris went to Tri-State University after the war and obtained a mechanical engineering degree.
He would then work for Continental Rubber, Oilwell Supply Division of U.S Steel and he retired from OMG.
On July 26, 1954 he married the former Mary Ann Lindquist and she preceded him in death on April 3, 2019. They shared 64 years together.
Norris always enjoyed gardening and giving his friends and family his produce.
He also enjoyed his German Shepherds, and was an avid hunter and fishermen.
He was a loving father, husband and grandfather
One thing he was proud of was when he and Mary Ann got married, his oldest brother Ed gave them a ride to their reception in a 1931 Model A Coupe, then on his 60th anniversary his younger brother Bob gave them a ride in the same car, which was fully restored.
He is survived by his four children

13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren also survive.
He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters

Joyce Wetjen & her husband Brad of Rocky Grove
Twila Wengard & her husband Enos of IN.
As well as many nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers Edmund, Glenn, Russ and Fred Carter and sister Alice Persing and two infants.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 6-8 P.M. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday in the Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Hart, Presiding.
Interment with full military honors will be at Lamey Cemetery.
