Robert Henderson Obituary

Robert Eugene Henderson, 85, son of the late Lawrence and Edith (Stivanson) Henderson was born January 2, 1940, graduated from Oil City High School, Class of 1957,  and sadly passed away on March 28, 2025 from recent declining health.

Bob entered the U.S. Army Reserves on a delayed entry program. After his active service, he returned to Oil City and went to work as an assistant manager at Quality Market, was an agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance and worked at Universal Cyclops Steel rising to ladle man.

Bob was then recalled to active service from 1971 to 1979, reverted to reserve status as a recruiter until 1984 and then retired with over 27 years combined service. After leaving active service in 1979, Bob went to work as a Senior Planner for the City of Wichita Falls, Texas and retired from there in 2002 as Housing & Community Development Director. Bob graduated from Cameron University in Lawton, OK., with an associate degree and then California University of PA. with both a Bachelor and Master’s degrees.

Bob was married to the former Rena Walker in 1961, now deceased. He is survived by three children,

Tonya Gideon Davenport of Burk-Birnett, TX.,

Alexis Diane Adlof of Plum, PA.,

And Robert Scott Henderson of Penn Hills, PA.

A special nephew, Terry Henderson of Kennerdell, PA. and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bob re-married in 2004 to the former Karen (Schott) Montie and acquired a bonus family with her two sons Jason and Justin Montie, two special daughters-in-law Katie and Claire Montie and their families, Kendall, Nathan, Ben and Brooke Montie.

Bob was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church and held board positions there.

He was born with a “Gift of Gab” and enjoyed story-telling, old tv re-runs, John Wayne movies, and war documentaries.

He had a great respect for men and women who serve our country and was a passionate history buff and trivia master.

Honoring Bob’s wishes, there will be no visitation and his cremated remains will be entombed at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies outside of Bridgeville, PA.

A family remembrance gathering will be held at a later date.

The Reinsel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent at www.reinselfuneralhome.com

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Staff at Hillman Cancer Center, Sugar Creek Cre Center and the VNA Hospice for their dedication and patient care commitments to Bob and his family.
