It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Vincent “Vince” Straub, 85, of State College, PA, on June 20, 2025, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. True to his nature, he faced every challenge with the grit and resilience of a true tough man.
Born on January 18, 1940, in Oil City, PA, Vince lived a life marked by dedication, integrity, and a deep love for family, tradition, and restoring old cars.
Vince began his professional journey in the book business but soon followed the path of his father and grandfathers into the oil industry. A visionary in his field, he played a pivotal role in connecting Quaker State Motor Oil with NASCAR, working directly with racing legend Bobby Allison. This accomplishment combined his professional expertise with his lifelong passion for race cars.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the 1960s, and in 1971, gave back to his local community as a Zelienople Borough Council member, reflecting his deep sense of civic responsibility.
Later in life, Vince served the Commonwealth as an Oil and Gas Inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, where he worked until his retirement in 2010. Following retirement, he continued his service to the industry as the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Independent Petroleum Producers (PIPP), a group dedicated to maintaining the economic feasibility of independent oil production by influencing current and future oil and gas regulations within the Commonwealth.
While his career was impressive, Vince’s greatest joy came from the life he built with his beloved wife, Vivian (Kramer) Straub, whom he met while attending Clarion University. They married in 1967 and shared nearly six decades of love, partnership, and devotion.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Vivian, and their children, Ann (Mark) Simon and Rich, who carry forward his spirit, strength, and values.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents, Charles (“Bill”) and Audrey Weindorff Straub. He is survived by his siblings, William Straub, Mary Ann Straub Herbert, Judith Straub Podgorny, and Jane Straub Hodkin, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Outside of work, Vince could often be found in the garage, tinkering with old cars or discussing the oil business. His passion for classic cars and motorsports was more than a pastime—it was part of his identity.
He will be remembered for his quiet wisdom, steadfast work ethic, and love for his family, friends, and community.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday June 28 at St. Venantius Church in Rouseville—a family church built by Vince’s grandfather—followed by a celebration of life at Cross Creek Resort.
Interment will be in Rynd Farm Cemetery.
