Ryan Michael Shreckengost joined God’s angels on January 27th, and their ranks grew exponentially more kind and exceptional when his soul rose to meet them. Every day of his 28-year life was special– he touched every heart that he encountered and was a true miracle from God; he made it through so many struggles and complications without much more than an occasional grumble (usually about having to get his nails clipped). Ryan’s passion was classic rock music, and no group could hold a torch to the love he had for Journey…but only when Steve Perry was the lead singer, of course. Ryan loved to research and learn about many things , and could talk for hours about facts and little-known information, especially on the Titanic.
His true love in life was being with his dedicated mother, Kristine, who was always by his side caring for him. Ryan also loved his dad, Ron, and his stepmother, Kristi, and was fond of visiting them and going shopping with her since they both enjoyed it. Ryan also loved all three of his siblings, Danielle, Devin, and Cooper. He had a special bond with each sibling, but Devin was his best friend. Ryan was such a positive thinker and would always remind those closest to him that he loved them dearly. Ryan had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and would say “God made me have this disease so when people see me in my wheelchair, they would be happier about their lives.” Ryan never complained about his disease, and even at the end had yet another opportunity to make a positive impact: To change lives through organ donation.
Ryan was survived by many family members who loved him: Grandparents Ruth Kelley, Karen and Ed Nason, Ronald and Kathleen Shreckengost; Aunts; Karen Roser and her husband Bob, Michelle Dunn and her husband Jeremy ,Mindy Wilhelm and her husband Todd , Uncle Micah Shreckengost and his wife Lisa and Great Aunt Sharon Jez; Cousins Matthew Roser and his significant other Audrey and children Reid and Avery, McKenzie and Connor Dunn, Ashlee, Hailey and Cole Shreckengost, and Chloe and Chase Wilhelm. Someone else who harbored boundless amounts of love for Ryan was his cherished family friend, Gary Pacheco, who Ryan grew up knowing and loved dearly. Preceding Ryan in death are his grandfathers, the late Robert Kelley and Gary Caldwell.
There will be a celebration of life that will be announced on a later date. The family requests that if you want to help, to please donate to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Ryans honor. Even though Ryan has left this world, his family knows that they will see him again one day and are forever grateful that God shared this beautiful angel with them for the time he had on earth, and cannot wait to be reunited with him in Heaven–and watch him do everything that limited him on earth, but with newfound grace and ease.
